Iru is a type of fermented and proceesed locust beans mainly used as a condiment in cooking. It has an incredible complex flavour, somewhere in between chocolate, and cheese. It has been used for centuries across West Africa for its delicious and healthful properties. It is very popular among the Yoruba people and Edo people of Nigeria for cooking traditional soups like egusi soup, okro soup, Ewedu soup and ogbono soup.
